About Ernest McCreight Photography

I've beenaround shooting weddings for quite a few years now, since 1988 to be exact and I have seen quite a number of changes in the wedding photography business. Back then I developed and printed all of my negatives and produced what I thought were great albums, most of which would only hold 25 or 30 10x8 prints.

I remember going to a photography trade show in the early nineties and seeing a digital wedding book for the first time with all the different page layouts and the large coffee style of the books. I thought whoa...these are magnificent.  From then I changed my approach to how I went about shooting my weddings. No longer was I confined to just getting well posed shots of the bride and groom and their parents but with digital capture I was free to capture the whole event and tell the whole story of the wedding day with all the fun and emotions of the day.

With so many non professional photographers shooting weekend weddings what should a bride look for when hiring a photographer?

  1. Ask to see full sample weddings. Either in albums or DVD videos.

  2. I would hesitate to hire a photographer who does not have a website with plenty of sample images.

  3. Is there as photography style? Does the photographer shoot mostly candid non arranged pictures.

  4. Is there a good mix of candid and traditional portraits?

  5. Is the photographer a people shooter or is there a heavy influence of detail shots of flowers, rings, shoes, buttoniers, champagne glasses?

  6. Are there any WOW shots which make you want to look again and again at the photos.

  7. Do most of the images look washed out with pale skies and blown out detail in the brides dress.

  8. Do the colours look true or do they have a yellow or blue cast to them?

  9. Ask to see the wedding contract. Some will make big promises but deliver something else because the contract covers it.

  10. What kind of personality does your photographer have, does he or she show a  willingness to go the extra mile with you.
Wedding photography is not a generic product. Ask these and other questions and it will become obvious who the right choice will be for you. You will notice a marked difference in ATTITUDE, QUALITY, CREATIVITY AND EXPERIENCE.

Remember, this is your special day. DO YOU WANT TO HIRE AN AMATEUR TO PRACTICE ON YOUR SPECIAL DAY OR HIRE A PROFESSIONAL WHO WILL CREATE A LIFELONG HEIRLOOM?
